The Aruba Cardigan is a design that will help you grow as a crocheter. It won’t leave you indifferent, and you will master complex techniques in an easy, enjoyable way.

This cardigan is the twin sister of the Aruba Kimono and has a lot in common with it, such as being made up of the same 3 stitches:

  • the lacy double mesh stitch
  • the delightful vanilla stitch
  • the garter stitch.

But it also has many differences:

  • the cardigan is made up of three pieces that are then joined together. The kimono, on the other hand, is a single piece joined only at the shoulders.
  • the kimono is designed for spring-summer, sleeveless and with a very pronounced armhole. In the cardigan you will find three-quarter sleeves that are worked at the same time as the back and the fronts. You won’t see any seams at the shoulders!

MATERIALS:

Recommended yarns: the Aruba Cardigan is crocheted with two strands held together:

  • 100% Bamboo yarn Casasol, detox-dyed, size M, color intense khaki: 100 g/300 m (fingering weight)
  • Non-mulesed Mohair yarn Casasol, 35% mohair, 35% superfine alpaca, 30% PA, color 910: 50 g/450 m (lace weight)

Held together, these two strands create an unmatched feel and drape.

The amounts of material you need for each size are:

SIZE* BUST (up to) BAMBOO M (number of skeins) MOHAIR (number of skeins)
1 (XS) 85 cm / 33.5 in 500 g / 1,500 m (5) 200 g / 1,800 m (4)
2 (S) 95 cm / 37.5 in 600 g / 1,800 m (6) 200 g / 1,800 m (4)
3 (M) 105 cm / 41.5 in 600 g / 1,800 m (6) 200 g / 1,800 m (4)
4 (L) 115 cm / 45.5 in 600 g / 1,800 m (6) 200 g / 1,800 m (4)
5 (XL) 125 cm / 49 in 700 g / 2,100 m (7) 250 g / 2,250 m (5)
6 (2XL) 135 cm / 53 in 700 g / 2,100 m (7) 250 g / 2,250 m (5)

    • how to start the sleeves, which are worked as part of the rest of the cardigan
    • invisible joins
    • the finishing around the neckline
    • how to block the garment correctly
    • a trick to rip back easily when you are working with a mohair strand

The “Testers’ Book”, an extra PDF file with photos of the versions that other crocheters have made of the Aruba Cardigan. Here you will find ideas for yarn and color combinations.

This is a project to crochet slowly and enjoy every stitch… Take your time to perfect the garter stitch and give yourself over to the delight of learning the vanilla stitch. It won’t disappoint you.

It is an intermediate-level pattern, but I give you every facility to make it yours with the least effort.
