The Luz Top is an innovative crochet pattern designed to be worked in one continuous piece. It looks like a cardigan, but its clever construction makes it a fully closed garment at the front. The flap and the buttons are purely decorative!

I designed this pattern with the comfort and style of the maker in mind. The construction avoids seams at the shoulders and sleeves for an even, polished finish. Every join is made with the crochet hook itself, so the project flows and is easy to follow.

The Luz Top is a cropped, short-cut design, ideal to wear with high-waisted pants and skirts. It is easy to make longer by adding more chains at the start, and if you prefer a looser fit, simply choose a larger size.

The openwork stitch combines little bubbles and crosses for a lovely, elegant texture. It is inspired by the “coquette” style, perfect to add a chic, modern touch to your handmade wardrobe.

8 sizes, from XXS (bust 70 cm / 27.5 in) to 3XL (bust 140 cm / 55 in). Yarn needed per size*:

• XXS (70 cm / 27.5 in) and XS (80 cm / 31.5 in): 200 g / 720 m (7 oz / 790 yd)
• S (90 cm / 35.5 in) and M (100 cm / 39.5 in): 250 g / 900 m (8.8 oz / 985 yd)
• L (110 cm / 43.5 in) and XL (120 cm / 47 in): 300 g / 1080 m (10.6 oz / 1180 yd)
• 2XL (130 cm / 51 in) and 3XL (140 cm / 55 in): 350 g / 1260 m (12.3 oz / 1380 yd)

*These amounts are for the cropped version. If you choose a longer version you will need more yarn. Check the Testers´Book for inspiration.

Materials

• Casasol Cupcake cotton (50 g / 180 m). You can substitute any yarn with similar characteristics (fingering weight, about 100 g / 360 m).
• Crochet hook 3 mm, or the size needed to match the gauge. Use a hook one size larger for the ribbing.
• 6 to 8 decorative buttons, depending on size and spacing.
• Stitch markers, scissors, yarn needle and measuring tape.

Skill level

Intermediate. Ideal if you already know the basic crochet stitches and want a more elaborate project that is still easy to follow.
